Hawking's class teacher is Mrs Johnson and Miss Archer is the teaching assistant. Mrs Henry teaches in Hawking on a Friday.

Newton's class teacher is Miss Norris and the teaching assistant is Miss McLean. Mrs Henry teaches in Newton on a Thursday afternoon.

Parks class teachers are Mrs Satchell and Mrs Tweed and Mrs Reeves is the teaching assistant.

We will constantly update this page to keep you informed of key curriculum information and any other important news.

PE

Due to the current COVID 19 situation, children are required to come to school wearing their PE kit on their specific PE day. Please make sure that any earrings are removed before coming to school on PE days as children will not be able to participate if they have not done so.

Current PE Days:

Hawking: Thursday

Newton: Wednesday

Parks: Tuesday

Water Bottles

Please make sure that children bring a water bottle to school every day. This can be refilled during the day.

Reading Books

Please make sure that your child has their reading book and diary in school every day. Books will be changed once a week according to whether your child has read at home. At school, we promote a love of reading and is is vital that this is also conveyed at home. It is so important that you listen to your child read regularly and this will have a huge impact on their progress.

Please try to listen to your child read at least 3 times per week. Please record any comments in the diary. You can also record any additional reading that your child does at home. We love to hear about what they are reading!

Homework

Homework is currently set using the learning platform 'Education City'. Each week, we will set tasks that are both English and Maths based. New homework is set every Friday and needs to be completed by the following Thursday.

We appreciate your support in helping your child to complete their homework each week.

Spellings

This half-term, all children in Key Stage 1 will have the same spellings to learn each week. Children will have a spelling lesson every Monday where they will be taught the new spellings and given opportunities to apply the spellings when writing sentences. They will then be expected to practise the spellings at home over the following week. All children will then be tested during their next spelling lesson (Mondays).

Spellings will be sent home and will also be published on Class Dojo. Spellings that your child have got incorrect during the test will be highlighted in their reading diary for them to continue to practise at home.

All spellings will be taken from the list of Common Exception words for Year 1 and 2 or will be based on Letters and Sounds phases.

Phonics

We follow the Letters and Sounds phonics programme across Key Stage 1. Children are grouped by ability, according to the phase that they are working within. Children are regularly assessed and may move groups during the year according to the progress they make.

Autumn 1 theme- 'School Days'

This half-term, our theme is 'School Days'. The main subject focus for our theme is History. We will be learning about how schools have changed over the last 100 years and in particular we will be learning about how our school has changed.

Class Dojo

Due to the success of Class Dojo during Lockdown, we are now using this as our main form of communication. Please feel free to contact your child's class teacher on Class Dojo if you have any concerns or questions.

We will also update Class Dojo regularly with any important information.

In class, children are awarded Dojos for a variety of reasons including excellent behaviour, good effort, showing kindness towards others etc. Each week, the Dojos are collected and converted into House Points which will contribute to the whole school's reward system.

You can also upload any work that your child has completed at home onto Class Dojo using the 'Portfolio' section.

Self-Isolation

If your child has to self-isolate at any point, work will be published weekly on our school's learning portal. This is only to be completed if your child has to self-isolate, and they are well enough to do so.

You can find the Portal by following this link:
