Welcome to Alder and Hazel class. Miss Clarke and I would like to wish you a warm welcome to Year 3/4. We know that it can be difficult to get information out of children at the end of the day so we wanted to write you a little letter to help out!
To begin the year, we would like to take this opportunity to explain to you how our homework system works in Year 3/4.
Your child will be given a purple homework book to complete homework in; however, you are still welcome to send in homework that has been written on sheets of paper and to bring in built model projects.
We are excited to be continuing with our PowerProjects homework which is based on the topic we are learning about in class. Last year, we saw many excellent pieces of homework and we look forward to seeing many more this year. There is an expectation that children are to have completed at least six pieces of topic homework by the end of each half term.
Homework is due in every Tuesday and books will be handed out on the Thursday. If books are handed in late, we will count these as a completed piece of homework but your child will not be awarded the house points for it. We do appreciate that there may sometimes be circumstances where this needs to be adjusted.
We have chosen to send home the Year 3/4 spelling list, which children are expected to have learnt by the end of Year 4. Additionally, we have also provided you with the 12 x 12 times table grid for your child to practise. Times tables will be particularly important this year as the Government have recently brought in a times table ‘SAT’s style’ test aimed at Year 4 children. It is a curriculum expectation that by the end of Year 4, children should be able to recall their times tables up to 12 x 12.
We have lots of other exciting trips and activities and we have done our best to sort dates and times for these for the whole academic year. I will aim to get these on the school website under the LKS2 phase page.
We have high expectations for your children and we want the very best for them this year. This success will come from a collaborative approach and we aim to keep you informed and work as closely with you as possible.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and chat to us.
Mrs Banks and Miss Clarke.
