Welcome to Maple Class!
Our teachers are Mrs Johnson (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) and Miss Douglas (Mondays). Our teaching assistant is Mrs Reeves.
All children should bring their book bags into school every day. Please make sure that your child's reading book and diary is in the bag daily. Please check your child's book bag for any important letters that may have been sent home.
Home reading books are changed once a week, usually on a Tuesday. Please make sure that you are reading with your child at least 3 times per week. Please sign the diary every time you read with your child and add any comments about their reading – even if this is not the school reading book.
Please encourage your child to reflect on what they have read within their reading diary. Books will only be changed if the diary is signed.
It is essential that children are reading at home. You can make a significant difference to your child's progress in reading by listening to them read or sharing books regularly.
Please also highlight in your child's diary any other books that you may have shared together.
Spellings are tested on a weekly basis, usually on a Monday. New spellings will be sent home on a look, cover, write and check sheet. These can be practised in the blue spelling journal and will be tested in a spelling book which is kept in school.
Our mental math skills are practiced daily in school. Please encourage your child to practise these at home, a target sheet was sent home earlier this year. Please see Mrs Johnson if you need another copy of this.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school and please remove any earrings before your child comes to school.
All children should have a named water bottle in school. Children need to take their water bottles home daily to be cleaned and refilled.
17th October 2017 - Science Day!!
This morning, we had a mission sent from 'Aqua Boy' to design him a new cape!
Aqua boys cape had to be strong, stretchy and of course, waterproof! We investigated lots of different materials and their properties. We talked about natural and man made things and experimented to find out which materials were waterproof. Finally, we decided upon the best materials to make Aqua Man's new cape from and designed it!
Art Topic Days
Last week, we spent 2 days learning about the artists Kandinsky and Mondrian. We looked at some of their influences and work and then had a go at creating some of our own! We made some fantastic creations (and enjoyed eating some of them!).
3FF - Our Friends from Wisdom Academy, Birmingham come to visit!
We have been doing a lot of Literacy work based on the book We're Going on a Bear Hunt, by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury.
Today, we went on our very own Bear Hunt outside...
We had lots of (muddy) fun this afternoon in the outdoor area! We had a muddy treasure hunt, dug for treasure in the muddy pools, served afternoon tea in the muddy kitchen, played muddy hide and seek and made muddy outdoor creatures and homes with the natural things we found!
We can't wait for next week!
