Welcome to Birch class!

Our teachers are Miss Mountain and Miss Douglas. Our teaching assistant is Mrs Cahill.

We will keep this page updated with all the fantastic things that the children have been learning in our class..

Useful Information

Book bags

All children should bring their book bags into school every day. Please make sure that your child's reading book and diary is in the bag daily. Please check your child's book bag for any important letters that may have been sent home.

Reading books

Home reading books are changed once a week. Please make sure that you are reading with your child at least 3 times per week. Please sign the diary every time you read with your child and add any comments about their reading – even if this is not the school reading book. Please encourage your child to reflect on what they have read within their reading diary. Books will only be changed if the diary is signed.

It is essential that children are reading at home. You can make a significant difference to your child's progress in reading by listening to them read or sharing books regularly.

Please also highlight in your child's diary any other books that you may have shared together.

Spellings are tested on a weekly basis. New spellings will be sent home on a look, cover, write and check sheet. These can be practised in the blue spelling journal and will be tested in a spelling book which is kept in school. The results of their spelling test will be recorded on the scores sheet stuck to the back of their blue spelling journal.

Mental Maths

Our mental math skills are practised daily in school. Please encourage your child to practise these at home, a target sheet was sent home earlier this year. Please see Miss Mountain if you need another copy of this.

Our PE days are Thursday and Friday. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school and please remove any earrings before your child comes to school.

Water bottles

All children should have a named water bottle in school. Children take their water bottles home daily to be cleaned and refilled.
